Following the Leader

"The best leaders are the best followers." This principle is demonstrated by the church in Thessalonica.

1 Thessalonians 1:5-7
"For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
"And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.
"So that ye were ensamples to all that believed in Macedonia and Achaia."

The church in Thessalonica became followers of Paul and Silas.
Paul and Silas were followers of Christ.
Christ was the perfect follower of God.

Because Christ was the perfect follower of God, he became a perfect leader to follow (John 8:26-28,38; 14:20, etc.). Prophets in like manner, both anciently and today are the leaders that we follow, because they are perfect followers of Christ. The chain is continuous forever as we align our will with God's, through Christ's, through Prophets. As we adhere to the words of the prophets, and scriptures we become followers of Christ, and leaders (lights) for others to follow.

When we think of role models and the attributes that they possess we see them as great leaders. However a closer look into their lives would reveal that the reason they are great leaders is because they became great followers of a leader/role model before them.

This chain down through the ages links the fathers to their children, and ultimately our Heavenly Father to His spirit children. Insomuch that we can become like Him and receive His image in our countenance. (Mal 4:6; Alma 5:14,19).
